Importance of a Dynamic Warmup

Importance of a Dynamic Warmup

The moment you register for a RiPT class, it’s pretty well known that you’re signing up for a tough, sweaty workout. If you’ve ever participated in a RiPT workout, then you know the measure of intensity and fitness we provide for you here.

What you’ll also recall from participating in a RiPT workout (or if you are contemplating taking the plunge and signing up for one of our one-of-a-kind exercise experience) is that our trainers always do a dynamic workout before jumping into the workout itself. This is done strategically and for a reason.

Trainers and fitness fanatics alike will gladly tell you that dynamic warmups are far superior to static stretching and this is due to one simple fact — you are continuously moving! Dynamic warmups typically last 5-15 minutes and unlike static stretching, help increase your core body temperature, warm up those stiff muscles by increasing blood circulation, and activate your central nervous system so that your muscles can give it their all during your workout. Dynamic warmups aid in coordination, elongate your muscles and reduce your chances of injury. Bottom line, dynamic warmups get your muscles, joints and ligaments primed and ready to perform at their best. And as an added bonus, you’re probably going to work up a little bit of a sweat and burn a few extra calories.

As many of you already know, our trainers will normally go through a simple sequence of basic exercises to get you ready to tackle a RiPT workout. These exercises encompass the dynamic warmup and may include bend and reach, inch-worms, arm circles, quadraped, hip circles, squats, jogging in place, jumping jacks, high knees, lunges or pushups, to name a few. These basic exercises will have you and your body ready and raring to go.

It’s important to note that if you choose to skip a dynamic warmup your athletic performance could potentially suffer (especially toward the beginning of your workout) because your muscles won’t be able to perform optimally. Also, your chances of getting injured will increase. Not good.

So, taking the time to do a dynamic warmup is truly the best way to go if you want to get the most out of your workout, remain injury free and remain healthy. A dynamic warmup is just another piece of the puzzle we believe is key for your overall well-being and athletic performance at RiPT Fitness.
