What it’s like to be the “newbie” at RiPT Fitness

What it’s like to be the “newbie” at RiPT Fitness

Alright, I’ll admit it, I was a little intimidated the first time I heard about the RiPT workout but I will also admit I had no idea what the workout really was like UNTIL I tried it.

But, I told myself it would be fine and I took the plunge. I tried it.  And guess what? I liked it.

I was worried I would be out of shape, make a fool of myself or just fail at the workout in general…which would be embarrassing and beyond humiliating. Right?

Ok, so I will be the first to tell you, this workout is challenging but in a good way! I made it through just fine and so will you. You will live to see another day once you try it and you will leave wanting more.

Feel free to go at your own pace, just know that whichever trainer you are working with is going to push you so you get the absolute best workout possible.

When I first walked into RiPT, the atmosphere looked like nothing I had ever seen in the numerous group fitness classes I have tried over the span of my 25-year-old life.

The workout room was adorned with backlights, lined with Woodway Curve Treadmills and top of the line equipment, plus I got to wear a heart rate monitor as an added bonus. (Which, I think is pretty cool since I have never used a heart rate monitor in any of my workouts prior to taking this class).

I strapped on the Polar heart rate monitor (which clasps around your chest, if you were wondering how that works) and was ready to go. Heart rate monitors can be borrowed or purchased at the front desk if you don’t have your own.

I signed up for the CORE workout and was ready for a challenge but still a tad nervous. Once I heard the music, I was instantly energized and ready to go. Just having other people in the class with me helped a ton as well. Hello motivation!

The workout began with intervals, alternating between walking and sprinting on the Woodway Curve Treadmill, and by now I was in my own element.

Now, these treadmills are not like your everyday dreadmill. They are powered by you! Meaning there is no “on” or “off” button, you are the pacemaker. That in itself was unique! (Especially, for a runner nerd like me).

Once the group got through the sprint interval portion of the workout, we moved to the floor to do some killer ab exercises.

Let me tell you, my abs were sore for a couple of days after this portion of the workout! We did variations of planks, used the BOSU ball and basically worked our core until it burned…in a good way.

After that portion of the workout was complete, we moved on to the Ski ERGs. Now these are basically like long bungee cords you grab and pull down in a skiing motion. Weird, huh? But, fun! I really liked that portion and my triceps thanked me later for the extra work I put in at the end.

When all was said in done, I was energized but admittedly a little shaky. I knew I had gotten a calorie blasting workout in just 45 minutes. Just 45 minutes people!

The workout kept me interested because I was constantly doing different exercises. I was never bored and I didn’t find myself waiting for the workout to end.

I will even go so far to say I enjoyed it? Yep. I enjoyed it. And you will too, if you take the plunge and try it out!

I know how intimidating a new class can be, I was a RiPT Fitness newbie once too.
